The regulations in Norway precisely specify that chains are mandatory equipment from October 16 to April 30.

For 'light' trucks the required number of chains is 3 pieces:

- 2 pieces for drive wheels

In the case of a tractor unit (twin wheel drive), the required number of chains is 7 pieces:

- 4 pieces for drive wheels
- 2 pieces for trailer wheels

In the case of a tractor unit (single-wheel drive), the required number of chains is 5 pieces:
- 1 piece for the front wheel
- 2 pieces for drive wheels
